Infrastructure products are judged on what happens when something breaks. Deployment, rollback and certificate renewal are the visible surface, but the real property is whether the state of a system can be read from a declaration rather than inferred from a running machine.
What we have built here
Building our own deployment platform and workspace platform taught us that the manifest has to describe the local stack too. Two hand-maintained descriptions drift, and the drift is invisible until a code path that only exists in production fails there. Both platforms now define themselves with the file they apply to everything else.
