Carbon and environmental markets run on registries: public ledgers of projects, methodologies and issued credits. The technical problem is less modelling than reconciliation, because the authoritative record lives outside your system and moves without telling you.
What we have built here
On a carbon market platform the useful move was treating the external registry as the source of truth and our copy as a cache with a known age. What we gave back was the ability to say how stale a figure was, which is the question anybody trading on it actually asks.
